Windows 2000 Phone and Modem Start > settings > control > phone and modem and this screen will come up.
Click on the Modems tab at the top of the window.
Here you can add a modem or check the properties of an already installed Modem. We will be adding a modem here. Click on add.
This is the hardware Wizard.
Here you will select the manufacture and the model and click on next. If the modem is not listed and you have the disk for the modem click on have disk.
Now select the port and click next.
Click finish.
To check the properties click on properties.
Here you can turn on the modem speaker and set the port speed. 56K modems should be set at 57600. Click on Diagnostics.
Here you will click on Query Modem.
What we need here is to have second white box full of data. This tells us that the modem is installed and responding. If there is no data in the second white window then you will have to reinstall the modem
Now click on Advanced Port Settings
This screen should appear as this one does or you can click on Defaults. Click OK
Click OK all the way out and you are finished.
