I have Sync and Link but my DSL is still down

At this point there are quite a few things that could be wrong, almost all of them having to do with your computer itself. First reboot your computer to get a fresh boot of windows. Then go to start and click on run. If running windows 98/ME/2000 type command into the run prompt and press enter. If running Windows XP type in cmd. A black DOS prompt should have come up. Type the following into the window: ping www.yahoo.com now hit enter. A list of ping statistics will be displayed; you should see 4 packets sent 4 packets received. If you do not see 4 send and 4 received (0 lost) then type the following into the prompt ping 66.94.230.38 and then press enter. You should see 4 sent 4 received (0 lost). If you do not see this then call into tech support at 866-491-7221 in order to receive further troubleshooting.

If you are able to get responses from pinging 66.94.230.38 , but not from www.yahoo.com then do the following. Exit out of the command windows and do the following.

Windows 98/98SE/ME

1. Click on start>settings>control panel

2. Click on network

3. Highlight internet protocol TCP/IP for your network adapter and click properties

4. Click on the DNS or Name Servers tab

5. Enable DNS, and assign your computer a host name and specify a domain name these can be anything you choose

6. Add the two following entries into DNS server search order 66.51.205.100, 66.51.206.100.

7. Open internet explorer and see if you are able to browse.

Windows XP/2000

1. Click on start>control panel

2. Go to network connections

3. Right click on local area connection and go to properties

4. Highlight internet protocol TCP/IP and click on properties

5. From here click enable DNS and enter the following DNS servers 66.51.205.100, 66.51.206.100 click ok and then close.

6. Open Internet Explorer attempt to browse and observer what happens.

If you are still unable to browse repeat the first steps and see if you can get responses from www.yahoo.com, if you can and you are still unable to browse follow the instructions below. If you are still unable to receive a response from yahoo (4 lost) then call DSL Extreme tech support at 866-491-7221. If you get responses from both 66.94.230.38 and www.yahoo.com and are still unable to browse then do the following. Please note that the windows install CD may be required when completing the following steps, you should not go further unless you have an install CD on hand. If you do not have an install CD it is highly recommended you obtain one before attempting the following instructions.

Windows98/98SE/ME

1. Click on start>settings>control panel

2. Double click on add/remove programs

3. From the list select internet explorer and internet tools

2. Click on add/remove programs

3. From the add remove programs menu select add/remove windows components

4. Uncheck the box next to internet explorer and then select next

5. Now place the check mark back into the box next to Internet Explorer and select next

6. Windows will now reinstall Internet Explorer; it may or may not ask for the windows XP/2000 setup CD when going through this process.

7. After Internet Explorer has been reinstalled open it and attempt to browse the Internet.

If you are still unable to browse after taking all the above steps call our tech support department in order to speak with a tech support representative about your problem.
