DHCP Release/Renew

DHCP Release/Renew

Windows 98 / ME:
1. Click Start -> Run.

2. In the Run window, type winipcfg and click OK.

3. In the IP Configuration window, make sure your Ethernet Adapter appears in the white box and click the Release button. Your IP address will show all zeroes (0.0.0.0).

4. Click the Renew button. Your IP address should change to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX with the X's being replaced by numbers.

5. Close the IP Configuration window.
Windows NT / 2000 / XP:
1. Click Start -> Run.

2. In the Run window, type command and click OK. A command screen will appear. You will not be able to use your mouse in this window.

3. At the prompt, type ipconfig /release and press Enter. You may or may not see your Ethernet configuration, but if you do, your IP address will show all zeroes (0.0.0.0).

4. At the prompt, type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

5. Your IP address will be XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX with the X's being replaced by numbers.

6. Type exit and press Enter to close the command screen.

If you replace your computer or your network interface card, or add additional machines to your local network, you will need to follow this process again.
