Linksys PPPoE Configuration

  1. The first step to setting up your Linksys router is to get it physically setup. Connect the modem to the WAN or internet port of the router. Then connect a computer to the router via Ethernet. Plug on end of the Ethernet cable into the back of the computer and one end of the cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the router.

  1. Now open up your browser and type the following IP address into the address bar 192.168.1.1, and then click go. If you get a page cannot be displayed error then proceed to the "I cannot connect to my router" knowledge base article. .

  1. You will no be prompted to enter a username and password. Leave the username blank and enter admin into the password field and click on ok. If you are unable to log into your router refer to the, I can't log into my router knowledge base article.

  1. You will now see the Linksys configuration page. If you've selected this knowledge base article you have a dynamic IP and therefore will be setting the router up for PPPoE. Select PPPoE from the Internet connection type pull down. A field for username and password will then appear. In the username field enter your [email protected], in the password field enter the password you selected when you signed up with DSL Extreme. Then Click the save settings button on the bottom of the screen.

Congratulations you have successfully configured your Linksys router for PPPoE authentication. Now all you have to do is turn the router on, from this point on the router will log in for you, meaning you will no longer need to manually supply a username and password, the router will do so for you.
