Linksys Static IP Setup
- The first step to setting up your Linksys router is to get it physically setup. Connect the modem to the WAN or internet port of the router. Then connect a computer to the router via Ethernet. Plug end of the Ethernet cable into the back of the computer and one end of the cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the router.
- Now open up your browser and type the following IP address into the address bar 192.168.1.1, and then click go. If you get a page cannot be displayed error then proceed to the "I cannot connect to my router" knowledge base article.
- You will no be prompted to enter a username and password. Leave the username blank and enter admin into the password field and click on ok. If you are unable to log into your router refer to the I can't log into my router knowledge base article.
- You will now see the Linksys configuration page. If you've selected this knowledge base article you have a static IP and will be setting up the router accordingly. Select static IP from the Internet Connection Type pull down. A field to enter in your IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway will appear. Enter in the IP information provided to you into their respective fields. Enter the DNS servers under the DNS 1 and DNS 2 fields. Click on the save settings button at the bottom of the screen after you have entered everything into their respective fields.
