What is a Static IP Connection
What is a Static IP Connection Definition: A static IP address identifies a computer or other device on the Internet for the purposes of sending or receiving data.
- How do I make the connection? A static connection connects directly to our network using the TCP/IP protocol. A static IP address will never change and does not require a PPPoE client to log in and obtain an IP address. With a static IP connection we send a bridge modem that will connect our network with the client's computer or router and allow traffic to pass through. The client needs to configure their computer or router with the static IP information to make the connection.
- How does this differ from a dynamic connection? There is no difference in speed or service between the dynamic or static IP connection; the only difference is how you establish a connection with our network. With a static connection, the IP address that is assigned to you will always stay the same. With the dynamic IP address, upon authenticates with our servers it will assign you a new IP address. Dynamic IP address will therefore change when the connection is being reestablished. A dynamic connection is recommended for customers that do normal Internet functions (i.e. web browsing and email). Customers who wish to host servers or use VPN are recommended to use a static IP address plan.
