Windows XP Static IP Setup

A static IP DSL account is much different than Dynamic IP (PPPoE) DSL account. With a static IP you always have the same IP address. This means that the numeric value that identifies your computer on the internet (the IP address) is always the same, in oppose to a dynamic IP which changes every time you log in. Since your IP address is fixed you do not need to log in when using a static IP and therefore setup for this type of account is different then a dynamic IP. Follow the directions below to setup windows XP for a static IP DSL account.
  • First click on start then proceed to control panel>network connections.
  • Once you are in the network connections folder right click on the connection labeled "Local Area Connection" and select properties.
  • The local area connection properties window will then appear. Highlight the option that reads "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and then click on properties.

  • Now you will have to fill out all of the blank fields in the newly opened "TCP/IP Properties" window. Your IP address was emailed to you at a time prior to account activation. Put that IP address in the IP address field. Enter in 255.255.255.0 in the subnet mask filed. The default gateway is listed in the same email as your IP address enter this into the gateway field. Enter 66.51.205.100 and 66.51.206.100 into the DNS server fields and then click on ok.

  • To complete the setup click on the ok button in the lower right hand side of the "Local Area Connection Properties" window.
