My DSL connection is running slowly  

There are many circumstances to consider if your DSL connection appears to be running slow. First step is to determine what exact speeds you are getting.
First, ensure that you aren't running any applications that may be using your connection such as streaming video, downloads etc.
Run a speed test at:
speedtest.net
Note the results. Note that due to inherent limitations with online speed tests, they generally will show speeds that are about 20 percent less than your profiled speed.
Reboot your computer, power down your modem and router. Wait one minute, then turn them back on.
Run another speed test. If this didn't help, go to the next step.
If you have a router, connect one of your computers directly to the modem. If you are not sure how to do this, call us so we can help you set up the connection.
Again, reboot your computer, power down your modem and router. After one minute, turn them back on.
Ensure that you aren't running any applications on this computer that may be using your connection such as streaming video, downloads etc.
Run the speed test again. If the speeds improve, then the problem may be with your router or router config or a program that was using some of your bandwidth. If not, then reconnect your router, reboot again and retest your speed. Often, rebooting and reconnecting the router will restore your connection speeds.
If the speeds don't improve, call us so that we can test the line while the router is bypassed.
In either case, call or email us with the results of the speed test before and after rebooting and bypassing. If you email, tell us what operating system(s), modem, router and browser(s) you are using.
