Q: What is a gateway router?
A:
A gateway router lets multiple users on an Ethernet LAN share a single broadband Internet connection instead of having to use individual links. It also offers security features to protect the network from various threats.
Q: How do I connect my cable/DSL line to this device?
A:
The 3Com® OfficeConnect® Cable/DSL Gateway does not have an internal cable or DSL modem. The gateway router is designed to connect to the Ethernet output from your cable or DSL modem. An Ethernet cable is supplied with the product for this purpose.
Q: How does this product differ from the 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway?
A:
The 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway includes all the security features provided by the 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Gateway, plus a full-function stateful packet inspection firewall for additional security. The 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway also provides VPN initiation/termination that supports the PPTP, IPSec, L2TP/IPSec, and VPN protocols.
Q: How many users does this product support?
A:
The 3Com OfficeConnect® Cable/DSL Gateway will support up to 253 users on a local area network.
Q: Is this product easy to configure and manage?
A:
The 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway is designed to be used by networking novices and experts alike. It offers many tools to simplify configuration, including a Configuration Wizard, Installation Guide, Gateway Discovery Tool, and an intuitive web management interface.
